EDIT BECAUSE THIS IS THE LAST STRAW:
a. I've never even watched the regular show before, nor had I heard of it until people started posting "he looks like Mordecai from Regular Show" in the comments here
b. I googled Mordecai. He looks nothing like Jaymon in design, which makes the comparison even MORE annoying to hear.
They're both based off of blue jays, the similarity ends there. The nose, eyes, cheeks, crest, wings, legs, talons, tail, crown, body type, general artistic style, extra markings, and from what clips of regular show I've now seen, the personality as well are all completely different. The only thing that "looks the same" is the color scheme, which is, BIG SHOCKER... the color scheme of an actual blue jay.
The annoying comparison comments are not welcome, and they need to stop or I'll just start hiding them.

Derek was born in Bath, Somerset, England and shared a house with his parents and older brother. Since his childhood he was quiet and introverted, often preferring to spend his time reading novels indoors. His family was poor, and his parents would more often than not spend the nights arguing in another room while Derek and his brother retreated to their bedroom to escape the noise. Derek's brother would also read to him to try to cheer him up during such difficult times.
When Derek was eight, he found an injured bird that had fallen from the tree just outside their house and took it in to take care of it. He only got to eat so much food each day, but he shared what little he had to feed the injured bird. Just like all the heroes of the books he read, having adventures and saving lives, Derek had finally found something that gave him a sense of duty. Once his father discovered what Derek was doing, he snatched the bird from his hands, throwing it against the wall and killing it then punishing Derek for wasting food on it. Derek was traumatized, and the incident led his brother to take Derek with him and leave their parents.
From that point on, Derek and his brother had to fend for themselves. They eventually got work: Derek in a library and his brother in a restaurant. When Derek was 15 he finally met his partner digimon Fledgemon. His brother knew about the organizations in Japan and together they saved up the money so Derek could move there.
Without his brother around, Derek usually came off to strangers as aloof, often enjoying only the company of his digimon or and keeping communication with others to a minimum. He became quite well educated from his time in the library, and is a bit of a strategist in battle. He worked his way up the ranks over the years and has become a leader ever since the original digidestined had gone missing.
Digimon Partner:
Fledgemon is Derek's best friend, next to his older brother. Derek acts much more compassionate around Fledgemon and is more willing to cooperate with his peers when Fledgemon is there to encourage him. Fledgemon is much more friendly and social towards others, and often apologizes for Derek's seemingly cold disposition when among company. Knowing Derek's true nature, Fledgemon always assures others that he's not as bad as he seems.

- Fledgemon's favorite food is blueberry pie, and Derek taught himself how to bake so he could bake Fledgemon pie whenever he wanted.
- Derek reads at least one 600+ page novel a day, and usually falls asleep with a book to his chest. (if he was lying down)
- Derek's scarf originally belonged to his brother. He always likes to wear it around.
- Derek often likes to drown out noise by listening to some music on his MP3. He may not be ignoring you on purpose if he leaves his ear buds in and forgets about his surroundings.
- is terrified of ghosts, and shows great discomfort around ghost-like digimon
